Hello! My name is Sakthi Asokan and I am a rising senior from Grandview High School in Aurora, Colorado. I chose to apply and attend the Frontiers of Science Institute Program because I wanted more exposure to different STEM related fields. I've always wanted to enter the medical field because I love helping people and I love science. I love learning the why behind body functions and processes and because the "why" always tells you more than you need to know. After my experience at FSI, I would definitely be open to eventually participating in research, but this program has definitely confirmed my future career pathway of medicine.
Away from normal high school classes, I am apart of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Key Club (a international volunteering organization), National Honor Society, Speech and Debate, Chess Club, and Spanish Honor Society. I love being involved in my school and participating in some of these clubs has also given me an interest in entrepreneurship alongside my main health related career interests.
Outside of everything I do at school, I love art and volunteering. I often use acrylic paint and colored pencils, but duct tape would be my favorite medium. I am a crafty person and ever since I was little, I would try to alter things I used everyday to solve the problems I had with them. Furthermore, I volunteer weekly at the Children's Hospital of Colorado and the Parker Adventist Hospital. This volunteering experience has definitely changed my life and it has made me realize how important service is to me.
